What a beautiful day- all about clouds

November 15, 2019

Today is all about clouds. We will explore both delicate forms and with subtle tints and shades as well as darker clouds. Working from images of dawn and dusk we will create beautiful subtle artworks with layers of pastel.

Winter Weather

December 07, 2019

We get some wonderfully dramatic weather here in the Peak District. Spend a day in my studio recreating some of the wild weather happening up on the moors. We will look at rain sweeping over hills with light breaking through cloud. Then explore the colours of a snowy day. All in evocative pastel on specialist paper.

Introduction to pastels

March 07, 2020

Learn all about how to use pastels and different pastel papers. Understand how to use layers and the different effects mark-making can have along with using a shaper. Ideal for those new to pastel or new to art in general.

Liquid and pastels

April 02, 2020

Pastel can be turned into paint using liquefier then once dry, you can rework it with further pastel work mark-making. Its an intriguing process creating wet and dry mark-making. Explore colour mixing and create expressive and semi-abstract art work. Suitable for those that have pervious pastel experience.

Out of the darkness (Date TBC)

Charcoal is a truly stunning medium to work with. Spend the day exploring using it with both dry and wet techniques on two different papers. Create dramatic and eye catching monochromatic art.

Turquoise Seas

June 12, 2020

A return of a very popular course. We will explore using pastels to create breaking waves with a delicate seashore. Spend the day learning how to layer pastels to show movement, light, depth and transparency.

Sunsets over the moors

July 09, 2020

Explore using and controlling vivid colours in pastel to create evocative sunset skies. We will be using specialist pastel paper so you will learn how to build layers and mix colours to wonderful effect.
